stress free move in london

Moving Home or Office in London can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be.

Follow these expert tips to make your next move as smooth as possible.

Moving should never be a stressful experience, especially with a professional and insured moving company. Always choose a reliable and quality providing service when choosing a removal company in London or other cities in the United Kingdom. Always look out for proper insurance and reliable reviews when making a decision to hire. There are many things that you can forget to check before and during moving, so ensure you are well prepared ahead of time, by reading out Top Ten Tips for a stress-free move in London.

1. Plan your move early.

Never leave  your moving preparations to the last minute.

Pro Tip: Start planning at least 4–6 weeks before your move. Create a checklist of tasks like packing, hiring removals, notifying utility companies, and arranging insurance.

Leaving your moving preparations to the last minute will leave you in a state of panic and promotes a level of anxiety that can be detrimental to how well your move pans out. As well as taking care of yourself with allowing enough time for preparation, it will also help the removal company in assisting you better, and will leave zero room for waiting around and spending any extra further time needed, which can be costly.

2. Declutter before You pack

Moving is the perfect opportunity to get rid of items you no longer need.

Pro Tip: Do a quick survey of your home and write a checklist of all items you really do not need.

This means donating any small furniture or appliance that you don’t need to charity, you can recycle or dispose of any unwanted or old electronics, even better you could sell any unwanted items online, doing this can make your move an even more enjoyable experience, packing all your excess items that you really do not need just makes your move a lot harder than it needs to be, so allocate some extra time before your move to do this! Less stuff means lower moving costs and a faster move.

You can book a waste / rubbish clearance with us at ThinkSpace Removals, send us a WhatsApp with photos/videos and we will get back to you with an Instant Quote.

Avoid leaving rubbish items on the streets, this is called Fly Tipping and it is illegal

3. Pack smart and label everything.

Proper packing saves time, prevents damage, and makes unpacking easier.

Pro Tip: Try to use coloured stickers on each box so it can easily be spotted during unloading

Use sturdy boxes when packing your items, split the boxes between large to medium to small boxes and compartmentalize each items into the boxes accordingly. You can find cheap boxes with great deals on website like Amazon or Ebay. We’d recommend packing clothes in wardrobe boxes, these will protect your clothes without damaging or creasing any of them.

3. Protect your furniture and appliances.

Furniture or your appliances can be scratched if not protected or handled properly.

Pro Tip: When booking a removal company, always ensure they offer protective material such as high quality durable blankets to cover and protect your furniture or appliance material. Especially TV’s that can easily get damaged without protection during handling and transport.

Ensure your belongings are carefully wrapped with protective bubble wrap, and further protected with removal blankets, you can find them on Amazon or Ebay, however, as a professional removal company, they should already come prepared with removal blankets to ensure your items are protected.

4. Hire a reliable removals team.

Choosing the right removals team can make all the difference in the world.

Pro Tip: Look out for online visibility and reputation, with TrustPilot and Google Reviews.

Always be on the look out for companies that are Fully insured with Goods in Transit, Hire and Reward, Public liability insurance. These are key and shows that companies are acting in accordance to regulations before carrying out any moves. This gives you peace of mind and ensures your belongings are in safe hands.

Ensure there is transparency with pricing and that there are no hidden removal costs or fees. You do not want any last minute nasty surprises!

Ensure they have flexible service options, for example house removals, man and van, or rubbish clearance. Your needs might just be more than one type of move. It would be a much more smoother moving experience if you can find one company that provides multiple services rather than having to look elsewhere, this can be cost and time saving and make a huge difference!

Always check whether you need any dismantling and reassembling for your items such as cupboards, sofas, beds. These are usually needed, at ThinkSpace Removals, we offer these service as standard, and do not charge extra for this!

5. Notify important contacts.

Don’t forget to update your relevant contacts of your move.

Ensure you update your contacts of your new address, most importantly: utility provides such as gas, electricity, water and internet providers.

Update your bank, insurance, and postal services of your new address as soon as possible, this makes your moving experience a lot more stress-free.

Update your friends and family if you need to. Extra support from your contacts will make you feel at ease.

6. Take care of important and essential items on moving day.

Pack your essential and memorable items into separate moving boxes.

Pro tip: Keep important documents, valuables and medications with you. Ensure clear access to your home for your removal van. A little preparation goes a long way reducing stress and ensuring nothing gets left behind.

Have snacks, water and cleaning supplies at the ready if needed for quick access.

7. Take photos and/or videos before and after moving.

Documenting your move helps if you’re renting or need insurance claims.

Pro tip: Document this before any removal company enters your home and after they leave.

Take photos of walls, carpets and furniture before moving out. Take photos after delivery to ensure all your items have been delivered safely, and nothing is left behind. It’s also always a nice way to remember your former home.

8. Ensure pets are safely secured in another room during moving.

Pets in the home while moving is generally fine but safely securing them in a locked room or letting somebody pet sit for the day ensures peace of mind.

Pro tip: When a removal company turns up at your door, before opening the door or allowing them inside, take your pet to a safe and secure room in the house to ensure maximum safety, pets especially dogs can sometimes naturally be un-welcoming of strangers in the house, especially removal men who will stay for an extended period of time.

With multiple people in the ouse during your move, with a lot of movement going on, accidents can be inevitable with your pets running and roaming in between people, safely removing them to a secure location in the house ensures nothing falls on your pet, or anybody accidentally steps on your pets. It’s something to seriously consider for safety reasons.

9. Consider your neighbours while moving (do not hold the lift for extended periods of time unnecessarily!

Ensure your items are not blocking corridors or walkways (if you live in a flat or shared accomodation). Especially in places like the opening to a lift or doorways.

Pro tip: If you need to leave your items outside of your home temporarily, please leave them along the side of the corridor and not scattered in the middle to let other residents get past safely.

This just ensures everybody is happy and feels considered. One very important tip is not to hold up the lift when moving, especially leaving items at the opening of the lift. This blocking of the lift doors can cause malfunctions and at times cause the lift to breakdown, which means more impact on your neighbours and residents who also need to use the lift. This causes unnecessary waiting times for other residents.

If you’re loading the lift, ensure you gather all of your items closer to the lift, when you’ve done so, then call the lift, and load your items in very quickly and ensure you have someone there to help make the process quicker. This ensures the lifts are not getting held up and not break down!

10. Finally, relax and let professionals handle it.

Trust your hired removal company and let them do their job, expert help is always needed.

The most important tip: don’t try to do everything yourself. Experienced movers reduce risk, save time, and make your move stress-free. We are a dedicated removal team with many years of experience, moving is something we live and breathe by, no home or business is new to us, so relax and let professionals handle everything for you. Loading your belongings into the van is something strategic, and there is a method to moving, which every professional removal company should know, a great tip is to watch and learn for future reference, to help you in any future moves you plan to do.

Remember to ask questions, keep it friendly, and ensure a happy and positive moving experience.

Best of Luck on your future moves!
